Where We Are Today

Ogden’s Own Distillery has continued to grow throughout the years, and you may be wondering when it all started. Ogden’s Own was founded in 2009 by Timothy Smith. Tim started his idea in his house, specifically in the kitchen and basement. He quickly moved into a small 1,700-square-foot building in a strip mall just off Midland Drive in Ogden, Utah. He launched his first product, a unique herbal spirit with a mix of 33 herbs, called Underground Herbal Spirit. He got his first sale in July of 2009 at Hill Air Force Base through Golden Beverage. A continuation of sales allowed them to expand to the Northern Pacific part of the United States including Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming in 2010. With some taste of success, Tim knew it was time to add to the brand. They launched the well-known Five Wives Vodka in 2011 and received their first sale of the product in November of that year. Sales increased and even more, expansion began.

In 2013, they moved to a larger building on 30th and Grant in downtown Ogden. There they launched all the rest of their products. First, they launched the sinful and heavenly versions of their Five Wives in 2013. Soon after, Porter’s Fire Whiskey launched in 2014 and the other flavors soon followed. Only three years later, their Madam Pattirini Gin was launched in 2017 and finally their Five Husbands Vodka was launched in 2019 and became the exclusive vodka for the Utah Pride Festival. Ogden’s Own launched a new product about every two years since they were first founded and now has five different brands: Underground, Five Wives, Porter’s Whiskey, Madam Pattirini, and Five Husbands.

Their growth and innovation didn’t stop there. In March 2020, they moved into their current building located at 615 W. Stockman Way in Ogden, Utah. The massive, 32,000-square-foot facility has allowed Ogden’s Own to increase their production by 10-fold as well as facilitate their Side Bar, retail store, and amphitheater.  These additions are perfect for people to taste-test Ogden’s Own’s products and enjoy their high-end unique cocktails, purchase Ogden’s Own’s products straight from the source, and attend live music and other events. Quickly after moving into their new facility, they also launched their first canned cocktail in February of 2021. The Moscow Mule was the first to hit the shelves and soon after their vodka soda, gin and tonic, and flavored whiskey cocktails that include huckleberry lemonade, peach tea, and whiskey cola followed suit.

Today, Ogden’s Own is an award-winning distiller of craft spirits and the largest independently owned distillery in the state of Utah. How will they continue to grow? What will they do next?

Traveling to Oregon has been an awesome part of working with Ogden’s Own Distillery. The drive gives me a chance to enjoy some spectacular views of the West and meeting so many new people is the true highlight! After a visit with our good friends at Wagner Mall Liquor in Bend, I was planning my next tasting when a man in a black pickup pulled up next to me and waved his hand. I lowered my window and he said, “I went skiing with my wife and some friends at Snowbasin last weekend and we picked up your Peanut Butter Whiskey. That is some good stuff!” For a few minutes, he talked about how great this ski season has been for him especially since he’s newly retired and he even shared some restaurant recommendations - Bend Burger Company being the winner for the day. As we said our goodbyes, he assured me he’d be taking a bottle of the Peanut Butter Whiskey home that day. At a tasting later that day, a woman was shopping and after a few minutes, still seemed a bit indecisive. She was looking for a birthday gift for her brother who was visiting from New Mexico. “He loves flavored whiskey,” she said. After tasting some samples, she decided her brother would love Porter’s Apple. She took home a couple of bottles that night and before leaving, she shouted, “This was my last stop of the day, now I can relax!” Whenever people share some insight on their day, they remind me of being a bartender. Regulars showing up right on time to catch up over a drink, a couple stopping by on their way to visit family, “We’ll see you when we drive back in a few days!” Now when I visit Oregon, I’m starting to see some familiar faces. If you’re in Bend or Ontario, be sure to keep an eye out for our visits, we’d love to see you too! Blog post written by: Fransisco Hernandez, Brand Ambassador
